REVIEWS Average rating (from 25):Horn was fabulous while it worked - I have it mounted on my handlebars and it's saved my life several times.
Unfortunately it mysteriously went silent after a short time and any attempts to fix it have failed. Am hoping for a replacement from the manufacturer but so far it's not forthcoming despite my numerous requests. 12/18/11 I will purchase it again and again, people do not pay attention when driving. They drive right in the bike lane, and yes stray dogs will back off when they hear this horn. I wouldn't feel safe without it. Keisha Jones 9/28/11 Manhattan is terrible, between oblivious pedestrians and law-breaking vehicles this horn has saved me many times. and provided some good laughs. at 100 db its louder than any car horn.
Worked in the heat of summer and dead of winter.
Only downside is the plastic mount broke when bike fell (inside!) one day, easily fixed with a ziptie or two, but could be more durable.
And then the damn cat chewed through the tube! Super easy fix by cutting out the bad section, and using a tinnier tube such as an empty pen shaft as a bridge. Add some super glue and time to cure and I'm blasting away again!
Love love love my airzound! its a shame bike shops here charge twice as much for it as online (amazon, xmas 2010).
I recommend this to everyone, and would buy one (or two!) again if i had to. StevenNYC 9/2/11 I loved this horn when I first got it but now - only 5 months later - it's not working. The tube is cracked in three places. I'm currently trying a repair and ordering a new one. On the new one I plan to tape the crap out of the tube to the frame to maximize the life.
I agree it's not durable but it has saved my life at least three times and for that I feel like I need it riding the streets here in Seoul Korea. James Gre 7/25/11 Wonderful product,it is loud like there is no tomorrow, yet life expectancy is very poor not even 3 months after I bought it it died, I think that there is a design flow, it should be reviewed, not need for such a necessary product to go to waste because of lack of durability.
Carlos Carlos 7/18/11 My wife and I bought two of these horns
and the air hose tubing failed within tow months.
useless..the company will not return my emails.
Money wasted. Don't bother.
Piece of shit. craig sparks 7/14/11 Fill Valve should be located on the air bottle!
Otherwise nice product. Barry 6/29/11 We have used these on our personal, and store bicycles, for the past 5 years. And we recommend them to our customers, mostly bicycle commuters, serious bicycle touring riders, and cargo/utility riders. Neither our own horns, or customers, have had any issues. I firmly believe that the few people that have experienced problems either damaged the horn when installing it, or caused damage due to falling/crashing or in storage. We fill the shop mounts straight from our air compressor with an extra long hose, but I could see how a consumer with a small pump might easily damage the horn or the reservoir on filling.
As for everyday use - it's outstanding. It will quickly clear a crowded bike path or sidewalk, get the attention of the most brain dead soccer mom yacking on a cell phone, and has stopped attacking dogs dead in it's track. Forget the little, polite, two-tone classic English bells, and the zen-like temple bells. Get the warning device that can be used as an offensive weapon when necessary! jcscycles 6/6/11 Bought one airzound, it worked for less than a month, contacted rep at company , he said it must have been a "dodgy" stretch of tubing, ( had several leaks in tubing, all the way into the sealed horn unit)they offered no help, money down the drain. Go to youtube, air horn portable new for 2011, or treeguyable, to see and hear the best horn made with CUSTOMER replaceable parts , this is loud and durable, guaranteed for LIFE! mike sokolow 5/21/11 this product is the business: it rocks.
I've had mine for over six years. trouble-free, and utterly reliable; just keep the reservoir pumped up to max pressure, 100psi - I check it before every ride.
set the volume to max, and add a regular bell for those quiet "I'm coming up behind you" pedestrian warnings. use it generously and proactively to prevent all sorts of potentially dodgy scenarios!
oh, and the mounting is cleverly designed to secure the horn well, while minimizing damage and injury in the event of accident - it's not perfect, but it's pretty damn good. where you place your horn is the biggest factor. Adrian Russell-Falla 5/20/11 The horn IS loud. BUT the way it mounts to your bike is GARBAGE!. ONE bump, literally one, and the mounting point on the horn broke off! AND, to add injury to insult, the jagged remainder cut my leg!. I have a road bike, I'm not going off jumps, or down-hilling, nothing extreme by any nature. Good idea, but skip the Chinese manufacturer and find a company that can make a durable product - not "more durable" - just durable....because it isn't! Kristoffer 5/17/11 Sometimes the air just hisses out w/out "sounding". Not good when you need a loud burst. Works as described when it works. Talked to co. owner Barry 2/15/11 I just bought an Airzound horn and am glad that such a loud horn with no need to buy replacement cartridges is available for $40. However, why isn't its air bottle the same size and shape as a water bottle? I can put the air bottle in a bottle cage but the fit is not very snug and so I must also use the velcro strap.I hope that Delta plans to fix this problem. John Link 12/12/10 Loud enough to cut through SUV's with windows closed and music blasting.
Stops distracted shoppers racing recklessly in parking lots.
As a full year commuter for the last 15 years in Mississippi, Nebraska (all winter), South Carolina and Oregon I have to say that there are no material defects that can be caused by the weather.
The horn works better than advertised and the safety margins for allowed air pressure are very conservative. I have operated it at or above the listed pressure for YEARS.
The tubing and bottle are made of plastic and will be subject to chemical deterioration; don't clean with solvents and don't abuse it.
Normally, solvent breakdown of plastic would not be very visible; put 90PSI behind it and you'll know quick.
So, all in all, perfect product as long as you don't treat it like it is made of a kevlar/carbon steel composite. Ed 10/2/10 Hands down the best horn I've ever encountered. I've had it for 2 years, and after cleaning up my bike I found it wasn't working which led me to disassemble it for the first time to clean the membrane. Sure enough there was a spider's nest in there, but with just a small pair of needle-nose pliers I was able to restore it to working condition, just like new. I've never had a horn let alone an air horn that was so capable, and being able to clean it without fear of damage is wonderful! Keep up the good work fellas! Jacob 9/23/10 I was a bike messenger in Califonia and my airzound saved my rear more than once. Usually all it took was a quick tap of the horn to make a quick chirp loud enough to get some idiot's attention. Also works great when deflecting squarrels, pigeons, stray dogs and day-dreaming pedestrians. natedread 9/1/10 This is a great product and the quality of it is great! this is amazing and can help save lives, but the only problem is that mine didn't come with a bracket so i can't do anything so i hope delta can help me with this problem, overall i enjoy this product and recommend it! Rcpkustoms 8/16/10 These are brilliant I have 2 one in England and one in Thailand where I ride my bike quite hard especially in the Town many taxi drivers and Motorcycle taxi drivers now know me and give me a wide berth and a wave and often get me to scare their sleeping mates when I stop at conre lights. the English one has just failed after being on a bike for 5 or 6 years left outside in all weathers and never even wiped dry all bikes should come with these and a mini pump by LAW and the money that the NHS saves the bosses could give themselves even bigger golden handshakes when they retire :-((
Just how much do you value your body and would like it to be still working at the end of a hard ride
for this price it's no brainer Jing-Jo 8/6/10 Excellent, required accessory for any serious urban cyclist. This has saved me Fabian Rodriguez 6/21/10 These are great! I have avoided multiple accidents with this horn, and have one on each of the family bikes. They are loud and effective - cheap life insurance.
The mounting system can be a little tricky, and I did end up breaking one on a very cold day. A wiretie held everything together very well for the remainder of the horn's life. It seems they last about 5 years. chris 6/4/10 I have purchased 3 of these since 2007, none has lasted for more than one summer. Unless you go around playing with it and blasting every little while as a toy you will be lucky to get a dozen toots on it. The trashiest part is the tubing. I guess they designed it for people who only take their bikes out a couple times over the summer then leave them hanging in the garage for the next 50 weeks. They don't do well if you ride in the sun or in the rain. If you just want to goof off at a game or something go for it. But if you are looking for a good quality horn for a regularly used bicycle, don't waste your money. gene 5/2/10 I live in Chincha Alta, Peru. I ride the Pan American Highway regularly, with a lot of international truck and bus traffic, not to mention gazillions of little taxis and moto-taxis. The Pan American is none too wide in Chincha, and Airzound has kept me from getting squeezed off the road more than once! It's also great for all those little taxis that tend to open doors, flip a U-turn or start up after picking up a fare without looking! I recommend it for any cyclist riding in traffic! gordy 4/4/10 What a fantastic product! Its small, lightweight, and loud. When it runs out of air, a few pumps with my bike pump and its ready to go. It was easy to install and took no more room than a standard water bottle. The horn is inconspicuous on my handlebars but is exactly what I need to get the attention of the driver pulling into my lane with their windows closed and radio blaring. Carol S 3/21/10 I can guarantee that any motorist that does not hear this horn is stone deaf. It is sooo loud that I could still hear it with the windows rolled up, the stereo on and with the A/C running. Would I buy it again ? You bet I will!!! Mark Sleeper 3/12/10 This is a fantastic product for any cyclist needs to be heard. People driving cars are extremely distracted lately with cell phone conversations, GPS nav, and texting. To get your share of a drivers attention this product is an absolute necessity. This compressed air horn has consistently stopped cars/trucks rolling through stop signs without seeing me. This horn also works well on aggressive dogs in rural areas. I recommend all cyclists to be seen with lights and reflectors and heard with the Delta Airzound. Nothing else comes close. Logan 9/17/09 |
